It Happened This Week

Sunday

(Sorta) sick baby girl in my house.  She started feeling bad yesterday afternoon -- I knew something was up when she took a three hour nap.  She NEVER does that!  She seems to be feeling a little better this morning, just really whiney.  Now I have to wait for it to run it's course through the boys as well.  Sigh.  I don't even want to think about next school year when Jaidan is sharing all the germs he picks up in kindergarten.  One definite good thing about having a kid in daycare is they tend to pick up those ickies - and build a resistence - before they ever go to school.  Anyway, Baby Girl seems to feel better this morning but she's still not 100%.  Well, she's 100% whiney.  We've been singing, "I'm whiney and I know it!  I liketo pout."

In other news -- two months from tonight we'll be on the road bound for California!  This trip is coming up so fast.  The boys bring it up at least once a day.  We're all excited.  It'll be here before we know it.

A look at our week -

Sunday 4/22:

Monday 4/23:
Kyan likes to yell "Hi!" to everyone we meet on our walk.  Yesterday, he called "hi" to an older lady and she stopped to talk to us.  He chatted with her for a while and when we went on our way she told him, "you really are a beautiful person."  Maybe I'm hormonal or something but it made me all emotional.  She didn't tell him he was cute or handsome.  She told him he was a beautiful person.  What a compliment, right?

Tuesday 4/24:

Wednesday 4/25:
Karis was not a fan of her Uncle Boog Boog but, MAN, she loved her Aunt Jessica.

Thursday 4/26:
We decided to declare Thursdays to be our picnic day.  Unfortunately, there's not really any shade in our backyard and it's already regular old hot.  I'm not sure what we're going to do when it evolves to miserable type hot.  Indoor picnic, perhaps?

Friday 4/27:

Saturday 4/28:

So Very Pinteresting

Saturday

I've been pretty boring this week.  I've basically just been reading The Help (finished it last night!) and pinning stuff.  In addition to, you know, cooking and cleaning and making sure the children don't kill each other (or me).  Here are a few of the pins I've tried over the past couple weeks.

Yummies:

Light King Ranch Casserole - I used to hate Mexican Chicken Casserole.  I have no idea why because, basically, it's pretty much the best stuff ever.  Don't argue with me.  This was a slightly lightened up version of the casserole and it was totally delicious.  Karis cleaned her plate and yelled for "marrr!"  In fact, I think everyone except Kyan asked for seconds.  I used more cheese than the recipe called for (I think it called for, like, a fourth a cup.  Not gonna work for this family).  Also, using corn tortillas instead of chips cut hella calories.  However.  My husband ATE HIS OVER CHIPS.  This man.  Seriously.

Baked Cheese Balls - I actually made these twice this week!  Once for a snack and once for dinner (we had appetizer night).  So, obviously, we really like them.  I dipped them in egg whites rather than milk and the second time I made them I tried using panko (use regular bread crumbs -- it works so much better).  I froze the cheese before coating them in bread crumbs and baked at 400 for about five minutes.  They were super yummy!

Cheesy Baked Tomatoes - I made these to go along with appetizer night as well (if you're interested, we also had mini corn dogs [I used turkey hotdogs], baked tortilla chips with salsa, and Texas cheese fries).  I don't like tomatoes but I LOVE provolone cheese so I figured I'd give them a try.  Ummm.  No.  Not for me.  Too tomato-y even with the yummy cheesy goodness.  Jaidan and Zhariah both like tomatoes and neither of them were crazy about them either.

Homemade Spinach Manicotti - People!  Do not pass go.  Do not college $200.  JUST GO MAKE THIS MANICOTTI.  It takes some work (I made the Italian crepes which were totally delish) but it's worth it.  I added ground beef to some of them because I knew Eddie wasn't going to eat them without any meat.  I actually planned to make them on a night when he was working and therefore not home for dinner.  But he saw the picture Pinterest and asked me to make them.  He must've really liked them, too, because he took all the leftovers with him to work the next day.

Baked Apples - These were really good.  We had them for dessert one night and Jaidan liked them so much that he requested I make them for his birthday!  His birthday is still six months away and I'm sure he'll change his mind, but that just goes to show how yummy they really were.

Skinny Taste Pancakes - Another one that I made twice this week!  We had breakfast for dinner one night and I mixed these up.  I made them again for breakfast the morning my brother and his family were here.  The kids had chocolate chips in theirs and they really liked them.  I ate mine with a little bit of peanut butter.  They weren't the best pancakes ever but they were good -- especially for being "skinny!"

Easy Cheddar Garlic Biscuits - Confession: sometimes I buy those mixes of cheddar garlic biscuits.  Never again!  These were good and incredibly easy.  They were a little flat but I'm assuming it's because I mixed the batter too long.

Strawberry Icebox Cake - Good stuff!  I made it about half the size of what the recipe calls for.  We had it for dinner one night and since I wouldn't let the kids completely destroy the whole thing then, they also had it for snack the next day.  It was delicious and something we'll definitely be making again.

Asparagus Gratin - Yum!  I was the only one in my house who really seemed to like this (the rest of 'em are jerks).  But take it from me -- it was GOOD!  Next time, I'll do things just slightly different.  I'll cook the asparagus until tender and then just put under the boiler for a couple minutes.  I think that'll make the taste better overall.  But it was really good.

Artsy Craftsy:

So, Storme's 30th birthday was last week so I had to do some of the cute "milestone birthday" things I found!

I Can't Believe You're Flippin' 30!
You can't see it, but behind the "flippin 30" is several pictures of me and Storme over the years.

She aslo got a "30 blows" that's a little bag full of bubblegum!

Quite possibly my favorite little Pinterest find from this week.  We ALL know one of these people!

Happy Saturday!  Karis has been up since before 5:00 and Kyan since before 6:00 so I see naps in our future!

Thursday Things

Thursday

1) Storme's Dirty Thirty was last Friday night.  A few pictures:

How cute was her cake?

Me and the Birfday Girl
One of us got the Family Boobs.  One of us did not.  *Sigh*

2) There are a variety of reasons I will never have a fashion blog.  The number one reason being that I spend most days in yoga pants, tank tops, and sports bras.  But the number two reason is that I am one Cheap Bitch.  This is the outfit I wore to Storme's party, Fashion Blog Style ('cept, of course, I do not have Big Girl Camera and a tripod with which to take pictures of myself trying to look all serious and fashion model-y):

Top: I'mtoolazytolookatthebrand, Sears, $7, end of summer last year
Pants: The Limited brand*, yard sale, $2
Shoes: Stuart Weitzman, My friend Mo, $FREE
THAT WHOLE ENTIRE OUTFIT COST LESS THAN $10!  Holla!
*I also feel the need to point out that should go to The Limited and buy a pair of their "Drew fit" pants because those bad boys are the bombDOTcom.  I love them.

3) My neighbor brought over some tomatoes about a week and a half ago.  We're not tomato people and we had this big bag of them.  Soooo . . . I decided to make spaghetti sauce to go with last night's dinner.  Make it.  FROM SCRATCH.  WITH FRESH TOMATOES.  The next time I have this sort of idea will someone please remind me that I am not an Italian grandmother?  Kthanks.

The sauce was good. So good.  But the process.  Lard.

4) We bought Karis a La La Loopsy doll and a Rapunzel doll and a Disney Princess dress for her birthday.  Want to know her favorite toys to play with these days?  Dinosaurs!  I did not get a girl.  I just got another boy that I can dress in pink and have it be socially acceptable.

5) This is the first summer in a few years that I'm not going to Vegas.  I thought I was okay with that but now I have a sad.  I can't believe I'm not going!  It would be nice if the airlines would ease on up a little on the prices to fly to the west coast.  It's just not feasible for me to pay $500 to fly out there for a weekend AND have to pay for hotel, food, and all that stuff.  I'm gonna go into a corner to cry now . . .

6) I (try to) get up early every morning and get in a workout on my bike before the kids wake up.  Got up last Thursday morning, hopped on the bike, started peddeling, and realized one of the kids (read: KARIS) had been playing on it and put the resistence on the highest setting.

I cannot do the highest setting.  No thank you very much.

I put it back down to my normal setting and - nothin' happening.  It was stuck on the highest.  Holy frustration, Batman!  I scrapped my workout that morning and got to Googling.  I found an article that said the motor could be out.  I wanted to cry.  I NEED MY BIKE!

Then.  A couple days later, Karis messed with it again and . . . somehow fixed the resistence!  I have no idea what she did but I'm thankful she did it.

7) I've decided something: I want to bring the scrunchie back.  I read an article the other day about how Hillary Clinton still uses scrunchies (total sidenote: kinda sad that it's 2012 and we still fixate on "fashion" when it comes to women in politics) and I decided that if one of the most powerful women in the world can rock a scrunchie then I can too!  I wore one on my walk yesterday -- partly because I couldn't find any regular pony tail holders.  And you know what?  That thing held my hair BETTER.  I'm so glad I held on to that bit of 90's nostalgia.

8) It's NFL draft weekend!  I'm [much] more a college football fan than NFL fan.  But I love the draft because it's like it brings the best of the two together.  On the other hand, it kind of sucks because it's like you can VISUALIZE these going from "for love of the game" to multi-millionaires.  Sigh.

9) Did anybody read the article about Octomom that came out yesterday?  Like, this woman lives in squalor and is receiving food stamps but spent $600 TO HAVE HER HAIR DONE.  What the?  I mean, I think we all knew this woman was well past "mentally unstable" when she had 14 kids via artificial insemination.  But, really?  Really, really?  I wish the doctor who agreed to inseminate her would be held liable for the well-being of these kids . . .

10) Finally:
Really.

Do you think maybe they could just come do my laundry?  Or watch my kids for a couple hours so I can get a nap?  Work out for me?  Please? Anybody?

The Insta-Happenings

Tuesday

Whenever the weather is nice, I put Kyan and Karis into our double stroller and walk about 3.5 miles through our neighborhood.  When Eddie is working days I have to take Jaidan with us and then nothing I'm going to write in the remainder of this paragraph happens because THE KID NEVER EVER STOPS TALKING.  Ever.  Anyhow, when it's just me and Kyan and Karis, they usually just sit back and enjoy the ride.  (Though sometimes Kyan decides to tell me stories.  They usually go like this.  "Once upon a time there was somebody.  Do you know who, Mommy?  No!  A MONSTER.  And he was going to climb a tower to get somebody.  Do you know who, Mommy?  No, Not Rapunzel!  It was Chick Hicks!  Then three somebodies came to the rescue.  Do you know who?  Superman and Batman and Ironman and Spiderman!  It was four somebodies!  The end!")  On the ocassions when they're just chilling, I have the quiet time to compose blog posts in my head.  Wonderful, fabulous, witty blog posts.  I compose several paragraphs in my head and tell myself to be sure to remember so I can write it all down later.

Then later rolls around and I finally have all the kids put to bed and the toys put away and the dishes washed and the laundry folded and I sit down to my computer and . . . nothing comes out.  This happens to me pretty much EVERY SINGLE DAY.  Which is why you get this.  A blog post full of Instagrams.

I am finally reading this!  I'm several chapters in and really love it.
I just finished Then Came You by Jennifer Weiner.  I swear, I love everything that woman writes.  Next up on deck is Something Borrowed.  I liked the movie but I really kinda hated the message to it.  Let's see what happens with the book.

I'm not the only one who likes to read!

I caught her watching TV like this the other day ...

This has become a nightly tradition in our house.
After baths and teeth brushing and all that, Kyan and Karis ask to watch some Dora movie on Netflix.  Jaidan complains and throws a fit and says something about "baby shows." I turn Dora on and Kyan is out cold in five minutes.

Gah!  He's too handsome for his own good.

The Kykers is very into super heros these days.  A couple weeks ago, he spent the entire day being Iron Man.  That means he even went on our walk dressed as Iron Man.  Complete with green flip flops!

Kyan "borrowed" a crown from Rapunzel to name me "Princess of the World!"

Favorite!

This was taken on Kare Bear's birthday.  Apparently, it was a reenactment of what I looked like with Karis in my belly.

This was one of the balloons in the bag of "assorted balloons" I bought at Dollar Tree for Karis's birthday.  Yeah, assorted.  Hmmm.

Love this chick.  A lot.

Have a fabulous Tuesday!

P.S.  Probably no 16 & Pregnant recap tomorrow.  My brother and his family will be rolling through this way on their way back home and, unless they get here super late, I'll be chilling with my fam rather than listening to whiney teenagers.

It Happened This Week

Sunday

We took a (very) quick trip to Arkansas this weekend.  Storme turned 30 on Friday and my grandmother and cousin were nice enough to keep the kids so that Eddie and I could go to her party.  Ya'll.  We have now had a Date Night two consecutive months in a row!  I can't tell you the last time this happened.  Anyhow.  We packed up the kids and headed to Little Rock Friday morning and came back yesterday afternoon.  It was a great weekend.

A look at our week:

Sunday 4/15:
The little Nephew Person was Busy with a capital B.  Oh Lard.  And he was not having any of Aunt Beezy up in his face with the camera.  Oh, nuh uh.  In fact, he wasn't having any of Aunt Beezy at all.  We have to work on that.

Monday 4/16:

Tuesday 4/17:
Eddie let the boys pick out what they wanted to spend their Easter Bunny money ( a whopping $1 each) on.  Hence this contraption of annoyance.

Wednesday 4/18:
These two have been best buddies here lately.

Thursday 4/19:

Friday 4/20:
Dirty Thirty!

Saturday 4/21:
My grandmother is selling her house and land as in the process of buying a new house.  We went to check it out while we were in town yesterday.  I LOVE IT!  Even more than that, my boys were crazy about it.  I'm a little sad that my kids won't grow up on the family land the way I did but I know they are going to be able to make some great memories at their MawMaw's new place too.

Thursday Things

Thursday

1) We had a good - but short - visit with my brother and his family the other day.  We tried to get a picture of all four kids together and this is the best we could do:

For documentation purposes, here's the one we took the last time we were all together:

Karis was two for two on the stank face.  Suffice to say, she is not too happy about being the only girl grandchild.

2) Jaidan and I were going through old pictures the other day for a project I'm working on (I'll show the project next week).  We ran across a picture of me with an old boyfriend and J asked, "Does Daddy know about this?"  Hahahahaha.  Yeah, believe it or not buddy, your Mama had a life before you or Daddy ever came along!

3) I also ran across this while looking through pictures:

My aunt and uncle hosted an exchange student during my senior year of high school.  He had never been trick or treating so for Halloween that year Storme and I dressed him as a woman.  Storme was his husband and I was their baby.  Fun stuff.

4) Also involving Storme and my senior year of high school: she got us (me, her, and her stepbrother) kicked out of the movie theater for harrassing a girl who was sitting in front of us.  We made her go to the Hastings right by the movie theater and buy us each a CD so that we wouldn't tell her mom.  I chose a Spice Girls CD.  Judge me.

5) Don't forget to enter my giveaway for a free Gutzy Gear starter kit!

6) Zhariah and I both found ourselves singing along with this song on the radio the other day:

We were trying to place where we'd heard it and why we seemed to know the chorus.  Then we realized we'd heard it on the ONLY episode we watched of The X-Factor.  Huh.  How 'bout that.  Anyway.  This guy's voice is really . . . catchy.  I didn't watch the whole season of The X-Factor so I have no idea if he won, how far he got, or if he choked big time.  But, based on this song, I kinda like him.

Speaking of The X-Factor . . . Brit Brit as a judge?  Innneresting.

7) Look at the early birthday present I got from my hubby this morning:

Pardon me for a moment: !!!!!!!!!!

It's his old iPad.  He wanted one with more storage.  I don't really care that it's one he's already used because it's an iPad, ya'll!

8) Every time I hear the song "We Are Young" it makes me feel a little . . . old codger(ish) because, the fact is, I'm almost 32 years old and I have bags under my eyes and droopy boobs and, let's face it, I'm not going to set the world on fire.

I ran across the spoof, "We Aren't Young," the other day and it was cute enough (really think it could have been so much better though) but the fact that it's targeted to 30somethings just makes me feel . . . old.  I get it.  I'm not young.  But I'm not old either!  STOP AIMING SONGS ABOUT NOT BEING YOUNG AT ME, YOU ASSHOLES.

9) Eddie has been on a "big breakfast" kick since my brother and his fam were here the other morning.  I appreciate it and all -- I mean, he's the one who does (most of) the cooking.  But I can literally feel my arteries clogging.  Yuck.

I was getting the eggs prepared for him this morning and, in doing so, I wished for about half a second that I lived out in the country and could have my own chickens.  The amount of eggs these children can eat is insane.  Wouldn't it be nice to have my own chickens and not have to buy eggs?  Then I remembered that chickens poop and kind of stink and, yeah, I don't want chickens.  Free eggs would be great.  The chickens? Notsomuch.

10) I shall leave you with this:

16 & Pregnant: Alex and Matt

Wednesday

If I had realized this episode was going to be an hour and a half long -- before 56 minutes into the episode -- you wouldn't be getting this review right now.  I'm old and "staying up late" just to finish the recap of a regular hour long episode is hard enough.
Up this week is Alex from a Pennsylvania where, apparently, it's always raining.  She was raised by her single mom to be responsible and independent.  She pretty much kicks ass on the responsible front.  In addition to going in to her senior year in high school, Homegirl works two jobs!  Way to go, Alex!

This is a show about teen pregnancy so, obvs, there's another half the equation.  Matt is her boyfriend of two years (two years!) and he's smart, sweet, funny, and different from other guys (in a good way, of course).  Well, if never being "super responsible" and staying in trouble is a good kind of different . . .

Alex tells us that nothing has been easy about her pregnancy (when is pregnancy easy?  I have three under my belt and of all the adjectives I could use to describe them easy is not one) and I'm hoping we're going to get some sort of fun type of not easy.  Remember Markai and her Pringles can for the excessive saliva?  Alas, by "not easy" Alex means she has a big decision to make: keep the baby or put her up for adoption.

Alex's mom put her on birth control as soon as Big Al started doing the dirty.  Moms was furious when Alex got pregnant and gave her an ultimatum: either put the baby up for adoption or keep it and find somewhere else to live.  Gee. What a way to make yourself seem like a complete assface to all of America.  :/

She and Matt have the Adoption Talk.  She doesn't think she can give the baby up but is scared of trying to raise her on her own.  Matt is, like, totes going to "try his best" to be there as much as he can to help, you know?  Dude?  Of course, Al voices over about how he disappears a lot, parties too much, and has been on probation.  Dad of the Year material!

We're treated to a very-staged-by-MTV scene of 8.5 pregnant Alex in her dance class.  Seriously, the only reason this girl is at this class is because MTV wants to be able to do the round table discussion on how she got pregnant after she's finished standing there and moving her arms around.  Anyway.  Since we're all on the edges of our seats wondering how she got knocked up, she explains to her dance friends (and one of these girls totally has a poof that would do Snooki proud!) that they used protection and she was on birth control but there was an "oopsie."  They thought about Plan B but it was $50.  *Snort*  If $50 was too much, wait till you see that hospital bill after have the baby . . .

It's two weeks until Alex's due date and her mom is losing patience re: the Adoption Decision.  Her mom tells her point blank, "there will be no babies in this house."  She says she is not going to raise a baby and her responsibility ended when she put Alex on birth control.  And, thing is, I kinda agree with her.  I mean, she shouldn't have to raise another child because her daughter got knocked up.  And she did do the "right" thing to try to keep her kid from getting sperminated.  Alex does need to be a kid.  But . . . come on, Mom!  That's your kid.  Show a little compassion and don't try to shove a decision that she could live to regret down her throat.  It's like she's just trying to set herself up to be resented.  Ya know?

It's time for an ultrasound!  Matt shows up - sweating - and looks pissed off through the entire thing.  Alex mentions she's thinking of naming the baby Arabella.  Excuse me?  Is she giving birth to a 90-year-old?

Al and her friend Brianna are eating at a restaurant when Bri Bri oh-so-casually drops the bombshell that her mom wants to adopt the baby.  Ai yi yi.  "Just something if you want to consider it" as she takes another bite of her din-din.

She goes to meet with Brianna's parents - sans Matt because she can't get a hold of him.  It's pretty obvious that Bri's mom is foaming at the mouth to adopt this baby.  Her dad is the most compassionate adult we've seen yet this episode.  They let Alex know that they would give her time with the baby before stepping into adopt and that they would allow her to stay in the baby's life.  They also let her know they have a neighbor looking for a roomie (remember: Al can't stay at her mom's house if she decides to keep the baby).  They meet the neighbor and agree on rent, utilities, and all that.

Alex and Matt get together to discuss this whole "OMG WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DOOOOOO" thing again.  Matt is, of course, sweating again.  Excessively this time.  Gross.  He thinks it's a good idea for Brianna's parents to adopt the baby.  He tells Alex she has to put the baby before herself and that this is an act that requires "uber maturity."  Lol, Matt, el oh el.  I can't believe the word "maturity" is even in this dude's vocabulary. He tells her she can't financially afford baby.  She knows she can't on her own but stresses that they can do it together if they both put in 150%.  Matt disagrees.  Possibly because he's never in his life put 150% into anything other than smoking pot.

She takes Matt to talk to Brianna's parents.  Ya'll.  I'll be honest: I don't know much about drug use at all but I'm assuming this disgusting sweating is probably attributed to some sort of drug use?  Regardless, it's pretty gross.  And it's sad because this is a kid who is only 17 and, not only that, but he can't put down the pipe long enough to focus on the fact that a life he went halves on is about to brought into the world.  Through the course of the meeting, Alex says she realizes that adoption is the best bet.  Bri's mom starts to cry.  Her dad steps in and says to wait until after the baby comes to make a decision, that actually meeting their baby could change their minds.

Even though she is leaning toward the adoption, Alex decides to move in to to the neighbor's house anyway.  She doesn't get everything moved in so she stays the night at Bri's house.  She wakes up the next morning in labor.  She texts Matt and four hours later he still hasn't responded.

She decides she wants to "go down there" and have a face to face conversation with him.  They find him and I'm not sure exactly what happens but Alex is writhing in pain and Matt's sweaty ass finds himself parked in the backseat of the car.

After 18 hours of labor (finally!  A labor that lasts longer than five or six hours!), Arabella Elizabeth is born.  Matt stays by Alex's side and she's feeling all warm and fuzzy and in love with him and their baybay.  After two days with the babes, she can't imagine giving her to someone else.  She goes home from the hospital to Matt's house so they can talk.  So much talking in this episode!  She tells him she just wants him to be committed to the baby and for him to stay as smittten as he is in that moment.  Oh, Alex.  Honey.  You have watched this show before, haven't you?

It's time to tell her mom and Brianna's parents that she wants to keep the baby.  Brianna's mom cries (and I feel for her) and Alex's mom apologizes to her.  Her mom starts harping on her about expenses and just . . . I don't know.  I don't like her mom and I can't believe she's treating her teenage daughter, who is just days post-partum, to a lecture.  Let's just leave my opinion at that.

Alex has to prove she can do it on her own.  Only problem is . . . she can't.  She doesn't have enough cash in her account to cover rent.  She needs Matt's help.  When she tells him this, he tells her he'll "probably" get a job at, like, a factory maybe, like, sometime this week.  Homeslice is totally stoned out of his mind as he tells her that he'll do his best.  Mmkay.

It's been a week since she asked for money and she hasn't seen a dime.  I know!  You're all fainting in shoc!.  Since she can't afford rent, she tells her mom she wants to move back home.  Her mom says she can live there but then launches into a lecture about how her lack of planning is not being a responsible parent.  I don't know what more she wants from a teen mom -- the kid is taking care of her baby and working.  But at least she lets her move back in.

So she moves back in with her mom and doesn't pay her rent for the next month as it would only leave her with $40 to get by on.  And since Alex is a 17-year-old girl she texts her former landlord to tell her this.  Alex, Alex, Alex.
We didn't get a baby shower with this one but we do get a "Welcome Party!"  Annnnd, during the Welcome Party, she gets a text from the former roomie letting her know that she has to get there RIGHT THEN to pick up her stuff or it will all be thrown to the curb.

Stiffing the Landlord on Rent 101: do not leave your shit in their house if you don't plan on paying rent!  Geez-o-petes.

She leaves the shower to go rescue her things and when she gets there all her stuff is already on the curb.  Her mom comes to help her out and ya'll already know - Lecturey McLectureson launches into yet another lecture.

Get this!  Alex's Grandpaps GIVES her a car!  Must be nice.

It's almost time for school to start so Al has to start looking into daycare for Baby Arabella.  She calls around and finds rates are crazy expensive.  She makes the decision to switch to cyber school for her senior year.  When she tells her friends, they start rattling off everything she's going to miss.  Ouch!  Salt -- meet open wound.  They tell her it's not fair that she has to sacrafice her senior year while Matt has to sacrafice . . . absolutely nothing.  He still gets to go school and see all his friends!  This makes me laugh because, let's be real peeps, Matt probably hasn't seen the interior of a classroom since fourth grade.

It's the first day of school and, OMG, Matt actually DOES go to school!  In fact, he overslept (because he was out the night before - where are this child's parents?) and missed the bus.  And calls Alex to give him a ride to school.  Of course, she goes and picks him up.  Sigh.

Her boss at the dance studio lets her bring the baby to work with her.  It seems like this'll be a pretty sweet gig (until the baby projectile vomits all over the floor during class) and, BONUS, she scares some of the girls into keeping their legs closed by telling them all what a Big Fat Losah Matt is.

She asks Matt to come over and watch the baby while she goes to work at her fast food job.  He agrees but then never shows.  And never answers when Alex calls.  Her mom is peeved that she doesn't have a back up plan and Alex ends up not being able to go to work.

Matt shows up three days later and they get into it.  This douchenozzle . . . ya'll.  He has the nerve to tell her, "one thing about babies is they pick up on yelling."  Oh, Matt.  He defends his not stepping by telling her that everyone knew where he stood.  He wanted the baby put up for adoption.  He feels Alex didn't truly examine all the variables.  I hate to give say this but, on this one, he's right.  Giving the baby up for adoption probably would have been the best thing.  Especially given the lack of support from Al's mom and the fact that her babydaddy is a drugged out toolbag.  But you know what?  It was her choice.  I can't imagine carrying a baby for nine months, holding and snuggling her, and then giving her up for adoption.  And, as far as that goes, just because he voiced his opinion on the matter and wanted to put the baby up for adoption doesn't mean that Matt is relieved of his fatherhood responsibilities.  Sorry, dudes, but when it comes to makin' and havin' the babies then your "choice" is whether or not to wrap that thing up.  You know that every time you do the deed, there's a chance that a baby will be the result and if you're not ready to step up to the plate and BE A FREAKIN' DAD then you don't need to be having sex.  Period, end of story.

Woah.  Tangent.  *Climbing off soapbox*

Anyhow, Alex tells him he has to make the decision if he wants to be involved.  To that he says he's doing his best.  (Please).  She tells him he's a headache and he answers with, "see if you ever see me again."  She tells him all he's ever going to be is a check in the mail and he says he won't even be that.  He walks off and Alex follows him, screaming at him about how he's a deadbeat dad and is nothing.  He walks away without saying anything.

In the wrap up, Alex says she doesn't want to be a single mom but now she has to.  She loves Matt but he's not the person she fell in love with two years ago.  She feels adoption is amazing but she just couldn't let go.  Her family ha sstepped up and helps her out but she pays for everything the baby needs.

This was easily one of the  most heartbreaking episodes yet.  Matt goes in the Hall of Fame of Horrible Babydaddies.  Alex was just about as responsible as we can expect a 17-year-old to be.  And while I definitely don't think her mom should be obligated to "raise" the baby, a little bit of help from her (i.e. watching the baby sometimes [not every time!] while Alex works) could go a long way.

Gutzy Gear: Product Review and GIVEAWAY

Monday

Jaidan doesn't start kindergarten for another four months or so, but we're already discussing the imporant things when it comes to school.

And by important I mean when we'll buy school supplies, what he'll take for lunch, and what kind of backpack he'll have.  Will he have to use his Diego backpack that he's had for several years and, let's be real, has seen better days?  Can he get a Spongebob backpack?  Or maybe a Phineas and Pherb one?  Can we find a backpack that has Batman, Spiderman, and Ironman ALL on it?  Needless to say, backpacks are a big deal in our house.

Enter Gutzy Gear!

Gutzy Gear are these fun little straps you add to your backpack -- with tons of different patches, called gutzies, to add on to customize your backpack however you want.  Everything is velcro therefore you have the option of changing things up to suit your mood.  Fun stuff!  They're available at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (sidenote: I get a weird, heady feeling when I walk in that store.  Kind of how I feel when I walk into Target.  Love.that.place).

I knew Jaidan and Kyan would be crazy about Gutzy Gear.  They love buttons and temporary tattoos and a whole bunch of other fun little things they refer to as "badges."  It was pretty much a given that they would love gutzies -- and I was right!  I was kind of surprised, though, that my 11-year-old middle schooler stepdaughter was also all into the Gutzy Gear!

As you can see, they also work for the one strap backpacks!  I suggested she use two and stack  them on top of each other but she thought it looked better this way.

11 is such a weird age.  You never know what they're going to think they're too old for.  But Z has been sporting her Gutzy Gear for a couple weeks now, has switched up some of the patches, traded with one of her brothers, and even handed out more Gutzy Gear to a couple of her friends!

The Gutzy Gear is inexpensive and, obviously, pretty cool for kids of pretty much any age.  They would make a great add-on for a birthday gift and additional gutzy patches could make for a fun stocking or Easter basket stuffer.

Want to win a Gutzy Gear Starter Pack for your own child?

It Happened This Week

Sunday

I went to bed at 11:30 last night which is pretty late for me (#oldperson).  I told Eddie I wasn't going to get up to work out this morning since it was "so late."  Ha!  Karis was up a little after 5:00 with no intentions of merely climbing into my bed, snuggling up, and going back to sleep.  I got up to rock her -- trying to remind myself that the times I actually get to rock this busy 2-year-old are few and far between and I should savour the moment.  Yeah.  Didn't work.  I'm sure by the time these children are all in their teens and have stank attitudes and body odor and make bigger messes, I'll wish I had savored more rocking them to sleep as toddlers.  But, in the right now, I was just irritated to have my precious, precious sleep interrupted.  Particulary on my day to sleep in!  Of course, by the time she fell asleep I was wide awake and decided to go ahead and do my workout.

Now it's not even 8:00 and I'm ready for a nap.

(Probably) not going to happen today, though, because . . . my brother and his family left Virginia early this morning and are Memphis bound!  Actually, they're further south bound but with a stop over in Memphis.  We haven't seen them in nearly a year so we're pretty excited.  The boys are literally bouncing off the walls -- they can't wait to see their cousin.

Anyway.  There is still a kitchen floor to be mopped and an upstairs to be vacuumed so let's get this show on the road.

A look at our week -

Sunday 4/8:
I feel the need to point out that 90% of the time I let my boys pick out their own clothes.  So that explains the mismatching and the too small.  And it also explains something you'll see later on . . .

Monday 4/9:

Tuesday 4/10:
Can we talk about grocery shopping for a quick minute here?
I go every other week to do our "big" shopping and buy mostly healthy foods.  Seriously, the unhealthiest thing I'll buy will be a box of Who Nu cookies.  Perhaps some low fat graham crackers.
Approxomately one week after I do "big" shopping, Eddie decides to go pick up "just a few" snacks.  He comes home with Chips Ahoy cookies and bags of Butterfinger bars and last night be brought home a 12-pack of COKE!
MEN.

Wednesday 4/11:

Thursday 4/12:
Yeah, totally one of those days where I only took, like, one picture

Friday 4/13:
Remember what I said about letting my kids pick their own clothes?
Yeah.

Saturday 4/14:
